Little Ears Library

There is a small library of skill appropriate books available in the Music Room. Students may borrow these books at any time. This is specifically helpful if they are interested in exploring a specific genre outside of class-- such as jazz, rag or pop. Many of them have opportunities to play in church or at family events. The library includes skill-appropriate hymn books and holiday selections.

The staff at Music and Arts are extremely helpful in locating music. Their in-store collection includes several current pop books as well as a good holiday section. I find this store one of the easiest to navigate.

Foxes Music :: Website

Foxes Music is a bit of hoof into Falls Church but it has a huge selection of music. Foxes is the store of choice for the Associations and carries all the Spring Festival selections. The staff is highly knowledgeable but often busy. There are student pianos in the store that can be helpful if you want to play through a piece.

Apps (last updated 8/26/13)

Music Apps are a great tool for at-home practice. The right game will give hours of theory practice! I would refrain from using the keyboard based apps for "practicing" fingering as it doesn't help hand placement.

METRONOMES are available in the iStore. I use PROMETRONOME. There is a free portion that is sufficient for most students. The additional paid features include rhythm breakdowns that can be helpful for advancing students. TIMING! is also a nice rhythm app that aids students in practice note values at various tempos.
